NASDAQ or National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations is basically an American Stock Exchange. It is a famous stock exchange as it has he the largest electronic screen based securities trading market system in U.S.
NASDAQ is also famous because it is an exchange which has over 3800 companies listed with it and also has more trading volume (per hour) than any stock exchange world wide.
NASDAQ was founded by in 1971 National Association of Securities Dealers and is currently operated by NASDAQ OMX Group. NASDAQ began trading in 1971 and at that point of time it was the world’s first ever electronic stock market. Initially, it was just a computerized bulletin trade system which failed to connect buyers and sellers. Later NASDAQ helped the conditions by lowering the prices or bringing them down to a negotiable level so that trading could actually take place.
Over the years, the NASDAQ became more of an actual market or trading platform. This was due to added trade volume and improved automated trading system.
In short, NASDAQ quotes are available in three levels;
- Level 1: which shows the highest and lowest quote offer
- Level 2: which shows all public offers
- Level 3: which is actually used by market marketers which allows to give their quote.
