When a Good iPhone App Turns Bad

Among the most notable features of the iPhone is its collection of fun applications.  For some users, the apps are exactly the reasons why they purchased the phone, apart from its actual features.  A good thing, once it gains too much popularity, sometimes yields a series of unfortunate events. In the case of iChatr, “too much exposure” eventually led to its demise.

Shutter for the iChatr

Apple decided to pull out the iChatr – a popular video chat application – due to a lot of users showing too much skin.  The issue of “indecency” ruined what appeared to be a rather useful application, as it simulated the well-used features of instant messaging programs.

Those who plan to use the app for more practical reasons will have to rely on Facetime or third party applications for their instant messaging needs.  Ease of use and reliability are just two of the things that iPhone users will miss with the iChatr shelved.

The Call for iChatr’s Retention

The move to shelf iChatr, expectedly, drew a lot of reactions from iPhone users.  Many suggested that the application should be retained.  However, it should have a “Report Abuse” feature, like with social networking sites.  Others batted for viewer discretion being the app’s prevalent guideline.  Whichever the case, only time will tell if Apple will reconsider its decision.
