Mac Pcs No Longer Safe As New Attack Infects Mac in Just Seconds

Who even thought that this would one day be possible? For quite a while, Apple PCs had been dubbed as the safest computers to use as they were not vulnerable to penetration by malicious programs. Guess everything do indeed come to an end. According to Wired, security researchers Trammell Hudson and Xeno Kovah have provided proof that indeed Apple PCs are penetrable.

Mac Pcs No Longer Safe As New Attack Infects Mac in Just Seconds

The researchers dubbed the proof of concept worm as Thunderstrike 2 which they say that the worm is capable of infiltrating your Mac and infect the BIOS of your Mac PC. The most shocking thing about the worm is that once it is in your BIOS, it cannot be removed by flashing your OS or even by getting rid of your hard drive. That is how serious the threat gets. The worst part about the worm is that it is capable of spreading across Macs without even a network connection. The worm normally installs itself on peripheral devices which you normally plug into your Mac such as Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter. Therefore, any PC that is connected via the accessories will get infected.

While addressing this issue, Kovah raised concerns by saying that this vulnerability could be easily exploited and used to infect machines across the world. This is could be possible by simply selling infected Ethernet adapters through online eCommerce such as eBay or simply by targeting shipment factories. Majority of individuals are unaware of these small and cheap devices that are capable of carrying threats that can affect their firmware.
